de Hooge - 1721 (New Testament)
These are the famous biblical engravings
by Romeyn de Hooge (1645 or '46-1708). De Hooge was a well known engraver
who worked in the style of Rembrant. These are from a fine later edition (1st.
ed. 1703). Most pages had two engravings with text on the back. As was common,
our pages were cut at some point in the past to separate the two images. Text
and poems at the bottom of some of the pictures are in Dutch. These images
are featured in Poortman's book on Dutch illustrated bibles. Most have a central,
large scene, with four smaller scenes from the same biblical book. Images
are 7.25" x 5.75." All engravings have in their bottom margin "Rom.
de Hooge Inventor et fecit. I. Lindenberg Excudit cum Privilegio".
